This past weekend was the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (and Half-Marathon). Allison and I decided to run the half instead of the full. We finished in 2 hours and 58 minutes. I am happy we finished! I was dying by mile 10 and hald to run/walk the last 3 miles. It felt good to push myself to the max. It was definetly needed. It was a fun little road trip too. We stayed at my aunts house in Indy. We got in around midnight on Friday night and got up at 5am to get ready for the race. We came home pretty much right after the race on Saturday.
We showered then stopped for lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back to Chicago. I was dead tired and could not wait to go to bed.
I am looking for something to occupy my mind these days next to wedding planning. It is fun and all but I miss working out and being active. It has been hard these days to get going. Things just are not the same as they used to be.
I can't wait to start school next year I am just sooo ready to start learning again and working towards my lifetime goals. Nothing is going to stand in my way.
I think this blog will be turning into a wedding planning/fitness/life journal instead of just focusing on exercise. My friends/bridesmaids have been getting into exercise and I kind of volunteered Rojo to host a bridal bootcamp style class on the weekends. We haven't had our first day yet. It is still in the works. Gotta get beach body ready for July!
Recently engaged and planning a wedding. Date: July 23, 2011 in Jamaica. Two weeks later we will be making the big move to Arizona for graduate school. Most of my energy is spent looking at everything wedding-related. When I check something off my list I will update my blog =). Wedding planning and getting in shape go hand in hand. I want to focus on toning my upper body because I have to look good in my wedding dress and on the beach for the 10 days we are there!

Ran like a Bandit in the Chicago Rock and Roll Half-Marathon
Haha...I technically was a "bandit" because I didn't register. This is a new term to me used by runners. It means you didn't actually pay to register for a race, but run in it anyway. Come on! I had to run with my best friend on her first race! She needed the support, so I got my butt up at 4:30am on a Sunday morning to get downtown. Race started at 6:30am. We finished it and I actually got a medal. I felt kinda guilty but it was sooo fun! Next time I will register, I promise. Once I find a picture I will for sure upload it so you can see us =) I am so proud of Lyndsey. Her goal was to run a half-marathon in addition to her wedding preparations. She will be married September 17 this year! I am so excited for her. Anyways, race re-caps:
Ran miles 1-9 pretty much straight through at a very comfortable pace. Every mile they had a band playing so it was motivating to know we were approaching a new mile and had one less to go. Then we both started to feel our bodies hurt. My cardio was great! If my joints and knees were in better shape I could have easily run the rest of the 4 miles. But we ended up walking because we didn't want to get injured. We did, however, run the last mile and cross the finish line! Her mom said she saw us on tv...how exciting =)
Yay for a half-marathon!!!

First Few Weeks of Marathon Training July 21, 2010
Marathon Training is in prorgress. I am registered for the November 6, 2010 marathon in Indianapolis, IN. The first few weeks have been pretty good. I have pretty much stayed consistent except it has been SO hot! This week the goal is to rest, run 3 miles, run 4 miles, run 3 miles, rest, and then do a long 5 mile run on Saturday or Sunday.
I am sore from the 3 mile run yesterday because I added an upper body strength training workout afterwards. Tonight the goal is 4 miles on the treadmill at the gym.
Running hasn't been too bad outside because I discovered the Pandora app on my blackberry. Once I hit 30 minutes I find a good pace and the rest of the run is a breeze.
Also, having a running buddy is muchh better for getting my butt out of bed in the morning. So Robyn and Allison have been good buddies because we all will be running the marathon in November! We are trying to at least run 1 or 2 times together during the week.

Update
Friday morning at the gym I started strength training again and WOW am I SORE!!
The exercises consisted of:
3 sets of 10-15 reps
bench press (10 lbs plus bar)
squat (20 lbs plus bar)
side lunges with twist (8 lb ball)
crunches on ball
bosu ab ball toss and twist (8 lb ball)
side bends (10 lb free weight)
I think that is it. But, I was extremely sore until today (Tuesday). I guess that means I am way out of shape and need to amp up my strength training.
Yesterday, (Monday) I started a hip-hop class for fun with a few of my friends. It runs for 6 weeks, every Monday. It was sooo fun! The instructor is coreographing a dance to Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas. It is so fast, and hard! Monday is technically a rest day for me, but thats okay, I can squeeze in hip hop. I was sweating by the end of it. Each week the routine builds on top of what we learned the previous week. The instructor showed us the whole thing and it is way cool. Maybe if you are lucky I will show it to you when I learn and master the routine.
Today my co-worker who is also a part of our Rehab Runners Running Club on Friday's asked me if I wanted to run during lunch. She is the only person who shares the same lunch time as me in the whole department. Of course I said yes! So today is 3 miles in our marathon training. We shall see how it goes...

Yay I did it! 3 miles, NO PAIN
So, I finally started my marathon training! I was really nervous because I've been having alot of knee pain so up until now I have been resting it. So, yesterday I finally got out there with my running shoes and did the 3 miles!! And the best part was that I had NO knee pain. It made my day I was so happy. Then I came home and cooked a delicous dinner of tilapia, rice, cactus, and a big green salad. I have the leftovers for lunch today, yum! =)
Today is another 3 mile run so I am going to run after work on the Praire Path again. It only took 34 minutes for 3 miles yesterday...and I am happy with a slow steady pace. As long as I don't have knee pain I'll do whatever it takes.
This is the training advice for today from Hal Higdon:
Thursday: Run the same distance that you did on Tuesday: 3 miles at a comfortable pace. Again, remember the walking-break option I suggested for you on Tuesday. At 3 miles, you may want to run the full distance. But as the distance builds, and particularly on days when the weather is warm, you will appreciate a short break, particularly to stop for water. Since most novice runners will do some walking in the marathon--if only through the aid stations--you want to practice this as part of your strategy.

Marathon Training starts TODAY
Okay, so I have officially lost it. The last few months have been absolutely horrific and I think I am sinking into a depression. So in attempt to bail myself out (as no one else can help me but me), I am going to start training for a MARATHON starting today. I mentally feel like running away right now so I am going to physically put myself through this challenge in hopes that I will retrieve my mind back because I am going crazy.
I am following Hal Higdon's Novice Marathon Program because it is simple and easy to follow. I also had sucess with following his schedule when I ran my first (and sadly only) half-marathon 2 years ago.
Today is the first day, and oddly it starts with "rest". But, that will give me time to go to sleep early...which is fine, beacuse sleeping is the only thing that I truely love doing these days. So my plan is to get back to my A.M. training schedule. So, whether I am running outside or strength training at the gym, I know I will get my workout in and be somewhat happy with my day.
Here is a link to my program that starts today, but really, the workout actually starts tomorrow morning, BRIGHT AND EARLY!!
Marathon Training Guide (Novice)
Monday: In this training schedule for novice marathoners, Monday is always a day of rest. Count on it! Rest is important for recovery after the weekend's workouts, particularly as the long runs progress from 6 to 20 miles. Your body needs time to recover. So take the day off. Friday is also a day of rest. In this program you will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Sunday is a day for cross-training. (If you want, you can reverse the order of the Saturday/Sunday workouts.) Let's begin this Monday, the first day of your marathon journey, by contemplating the training that will begin tomorrow.

Naperville 10K
I registered for a 10K last minute with Allison and Caroline. I had not run in 2 weeks and my exercise has been inconsistent. We started off with speed at mile 1 which I knew would catch up with me. Sure enough, I got this HUGE cramp that lasted through mile 2. Finally, I had to walk to get rid of it so I lost Allison and Caroline. =( It went away then I finally caught a comfortable pace. The path went through the woods and past a pretty lake. Then all of a sudden at mile 5 my cramp came back! AHH! It was painful to say the least. But...I finished.
I think I screwed up my knee. I felt like I twisted it funny because I was limping for the rest of the day. Then we all went out for a nice hearty brunch. It was a good day and I deserve to be in pain because I stopped training hardcore. Next up: 10 mile race in 4 weeks!6.2 MILES IN 1 HOUR 8 MIN

Easter Holiday
I was able to squeeze in a 3-4 mile run on Friday before the busy Easter weekend happened. I ate alot over the weekend so I feel like I need to get back on track with my nutrition. Yesterday was a realllllly miserable day for me. I got home from work and took a 3 hour nap, got up to cook dinner, be w/ RoJo, and then went back to sleep. I had some wierd dreams last night involving my grammer school PE classes. Strange.
Today is yoga night. I definetly feel more rested today and work is not as crazy....yet. So hopefully I can get on the treadmill with my podrunner intervals mix on my ipod and get a good long run in before yoga.

SO TIRED.
I did yoga Tuesday night and it felt SO good. I need to do that EVERY week no matter what. I'm going to try to go more than once. They are having one on Easter Sunday in the morning. I ran a mile before yoga on Tuesday too. It wasn't much, but I did it to warm up.
Yesterday (Wednesday), the weather was BEAUTIFUL. 75 and Sunny. Allison and I met after work to go for a run. I had such a hard time. I felt dehydrated and out of breath. So we prolly only did 2-2.5 miles before I called it quits. I guess it's better than nothing.
Again, today I feel like crap. I have a headache, im achey all over, and my back is killing me. Blah. It's supposed to be 80 degrees and sunny today. I am planning on meeting Caroline downtown to catch up for a few hours. If I feel better and there isn't traffic I might try to squeeze a run in but who knows. At this point I feel like going home right after work and going to sleep.
I need to sleep more at night. I can't function normally during the day if I dont. What can I do?!
Help.

Gus is Back AND Yoga Night!
Yay Gus came home this morning!! He is no longer lost. So hopefully he can be one of my new running buddies. Celebrate with doggie night tonight. Also, Allison and I are going to strength train and YOGA. Finally, back to yoga. I can't wait! My body hates me for depriving it of yoga the past month and a half! Updates when I get home...

Weekend Run in Michigan
This weekend was so good! We got away in Michigan and I definetly caught up on sleep and had a fun relaxing time. Much needed! I even ran on Saturday. We think it was 5 miles, but I swear it had to be about 6. I am sore today still. But it is good.
I want to schedule a massage today. Also, Jess gave me a website to download podcasts that sync with the tempos of my runs. I plugged in my ipod this morning. Tonight I will sync it up. Baby steps!
Hopefully this week is a good week. I want to prevent stress and more stress. So my goals this week are: sleep at least 7 hours a night. Get workouts in including running and strength training. And paint my toes!

5 Mile Race Complete!
Yesterday's race was wondddderful! We ran the entire thing not stopping one time! I am so proud of myself and my friends. It was cold, but after .5 miles our toes were warm and tingly. At the end I was sweating so much I had 3 layers of clothes I had to peel off. I stretched afterwards and foam rolled but I am still sore today. But I am SO RELAXED. I need to run. It helps me so much, both physically and mentally. Today is a rest day and tomorrow starts my training for the 10 mile race coming up in May. I plan on getting back to my Tuesday night yoga routine tomorrow.
Here is what they sent me after I finished the race!
"Congratulations on your finish at the 2010 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K! Your time was 0:54:30 and your finish place was 18936 out of 25,561 finishers."
**at least I wasn't the last one...but I still give that person some major thumbs up! =)

Day ??? Shamrock Shuffle tomorrow morn!
Well, let's see...it's been a whole MONTH since I have written in here. Life threw me a curve ball but I'm back in the game now!=)
So, tomorrow is the Shamrock Shuffle 8K. I am excited to run it with my friends. I don't know if I am physically prepared to run it, but I think I have all this pent up energy and stress so I think I'll be okay! Tomorrow kicks off my new set of goals.
I now fit into the oldest pair of jeans that I own. I have not worn them in over a year and a half because they did not fit. Now they DO! I am at my goal weight. 130 pounds. My new goal is to maintain my weight and train for a marathon.
I am sad that for a whole month I did not work out. I did two times actually. But that is not good when I can count on one hand how many times I did strenuous physical activity in a whole month. But thats okay...back on track now. Things can only get better from here on out. Wish me luck tomorrow. 5 miles here I come!!!

Day 60: Two Months In

Day 57: Giving up Booze
So the last 5 days have not been successful with exercise or nutrition. I definetly over-ate from Friday thru Sunday and did not exercise one bit. I feel like crap.
I drank on Saturday night and was hungover most of Sunday morning into afternoon. I had to sleep it off. Ugh, I hate being hungover! And it happens now when I just have a drink or two.
I have decided to abstain from alcohol. I can have fun without it! I like to be busy and productive and make the most of my weekends.
With that being said, I still weigh in around 137. I am happy with that, but some of my old jeans are way too tight to wear in public. I still need to keep working hard to get that 7 pounds off.
Let the week begin!

Day 52: Nothing New
Monday night (Day 50), I went to hot yoga downtown. It's called CorePower Yoga. I'm trying to make use of my free week. It was good...I got really sweaty. Unfortunatly, after class I was washing my hands and one of the diamonds from my ring popped off and fell down the drain so I was sad. There is insurance on the ring so I am going to take it in this weekend. Blah.
Yesterday (Tuesday, Day 51), Allison and I did a bunch of strength training stuff in the a.m. Upper and lower body exercises. Did a mile and a half on the treadmill. I am sore today from the weights.
Today, (Day 52) we just did cardio. I did 40 minutes on the treadmill and some ab stuff. I feel like my workout was kinda half-a**ed. Excuse my language. I did sweat, but it wasn't that hard. I just wasn't that excited about working out today. I had to shovel my car out of the parking spot by our apartment because of the snow heaps.

I keep thinking about how great it's gonna be to be able to run outside all year round when I'm in Arizona. Or at least at night when it's too hot during the day. There will be so much more scenery to look instead of the monotonous treadmill. My headphones don't work either, so I have to just read the subtitles on the tv's. Till then...treadmill it is...at least until the snow stops.

Old Jeans Fit!!!
Monday Feb. 8, 2010
Recap of the weekend:
Weight: 137 pounds
Saturday: (rest) shoulders, arms, and hamstrings were extremely sore from yoga on Friday. Took day off.
Sunday: (rest) shoulders still sore but could have worked out...but did not.
But the big news is...I TRIED ON, AND FIT INTO AN OLD PAIR OF JEANS!!! Woo whoo=)=)=)
I will post an after pic...I think the before photo would be innapropriate because I was only able to pull up the pants mid-thigh. You get the picture!
So, I was very doubtful before attempting to try them on because I was afraid I was going to be let down, but ended up shockingly surprised at how I was able to get them on! So to celebrate the superbowl and my jean-feat I chowed down on about 1000 calories of delicious chicken, pizza, and chips. This will happen only once, I promise. I've been eating so well I deserve at least 1 cheat day. Back on track today =)

HOT Yoga
Saturday: Day 48: February 6th, 2010
Yesterday I took a half-day of work and it was amazing. I was able to catch up with friends and make it a very productive day. I had RoJo drag his scale out of storage and put it in the bathroom so I have something to use at home.
Haille and I went to this nail place downtown to get mani/pedi's. 22 dollars total before tip! They did a great job and I will defn go back because it's so cheap! If anyone wants a referral let me know and I'll tell u how to get there. So that was good, we grabbed lunch and did that.
She also told me this place offers a week free of this "HOT" yoga and I was like ooohh, we have a few hours still so we decided to do a class. For this particular class they turned on the heat so the room got hot. The yoga was very flowy and a bit different that what I am used to so it definetly was a challenge! I really liked it though. Apparently this was a beginner class and it was the least hot of them all. I plan on setting up a day in the next week to try the really HOT class. The room heats up to 103 degrees with 40 percent humidity! Very awesome when you look out the windows to the left to see a full-on Chicago snowstorm.
So definetly sore from that. We plan on going to the gym tonight to run. I haven't had a good run in a while. But I am down to 137 pounds which is awesome. The calorie tracker is really helping me out. Got my taxes done yesterday, Caroline helped me figure that out. We had a wine/cheese/hummus tax date. So overall, good day! Now my goal for tomorrow is to fill out my FAFSA for grad school and I will be on track!
K, time to go walk Gus and get groceries!

Day 45: Massage Reward
Last night yoga was pretty easy. I can tell my upper body is getting stronger because the downward dog poses actually feel like a resting position now (which they are supposed to be), instead of difficult, which up until now have been. We did some strength training afterwards...just a few exercises; dead lift with 60 lbs, bench press with 65 lbs, and long lunges with 25 lbs.
I've decided that once my body weight gets to 140 pounds I am going to treat myself to the massage that Rojo got me for Christmas. I still have about 2 pounds to go, so once I get down to '140.something' I will schedule the appointment! =)
I am having fun learning how to cook and figuring out what keeps me fuller longer with healthy meals and snacks. I wish I had a way to post the pictures of some of the stuff I've cooked! =)

I still have about 2 pounds to go, so once I get down to '140.something' I will schedule the appointment! =) It's nice to have goals and a plan. I am really happy with the way things have been going in my life. For a while there I was getting too comfortable and complacent. I feel more confident knowing that I am trying to better myself, mentally and physically. Exercise and nutrition really play an important role in how I feel everyday.
Working out really gives me more energy, and even though I still think about just staying home and doing nothing (I did for a split second yesterday), but then re-focused my attention on the goals I have. I know that if I slack off just one day, it will be that much easier to "take it easy" for 2, 3, 4 days until I get back into the slump I was in for over a year!
And, yes, it does help living with a nutritionist/personal trainer boyfriend...but it was me who decided that I wanted to do something for myself. He loves me no matter what and I just got too comfortable with myself which is why I gained weight and stopped exercising. He aids in educating me, but I am the one doing the workouts and putting the food in my mouth.

Day 44: Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010
Yesterday morning I tried something new. Running with the dog. Since we bought a new "choke" collar for Gus, he has been walking a LITTLE bit better, and by better I mean not dragging me down the street completely. So yesterday it went well. 40 minutes of jogging with him and he seemed happy.
I attempted it again this morning, but it snowed last night and was snowing this morning. Gus won the pulling battle. So we did not actually jog...he ended up dragging me along the sidewalk for the 30 minutes we were outside. I might give it another try when it is clear outside, and Gus isn't freaking out/excited about the snow.
Tonight is yoga. I need it! I really need to get a good run in today, I am not sore anymore!!

Day 42: 6 Weeks Complete
Today I noticed that it has been 6 weeks since the start of my workout/nutrition plan. All in all, I have lost over 9 pounds, and a total of 6 inches. I'de say thats pretty good! This weekend I was pretty sore from my workout on Friday. My quads and IT bands are still tight so I am foam rolling tonight. My arms are feeling sore too. Today we did a lot of walking around town. So, although I did not make it to the gym, I still got in about 2 miles of cardio in. Tomorrow is up for a morning workout and weigh-in. Not expecting much more though because of the relaxing weekend. We will see!

Day 38: 9.3 Pounds Lost!
Ah! I got my butt up out of bed TODAY and dragged myself to the gym. It is SOO cold I hate it. But, I jumped on the scale because I haven't weighed myself on the same scale in about 2 weeks. The magic number is 141.7!!! I haven't seen that number in over a year. I have been really watching what I eat and reading nutrition labels, so I am happy it is working =)
I had a hard time running today, but I stayed in the tredmill for 50 min half walking, half running. Then I did some ball crunches and side bends with a 10 lb weight.
Have a wonderful day everyone!

PM instead
So, no suprise that we did not make it to the gym this morning. It's definetly MUCH easier to say I need more sleep and hit the snooze 5 times instead of dragging myself into the freezing cold on the way to a gym. PM workout it is!

Yoga Night
Tonight I did yoga. It felt good today, since I missed last week's class. Ate well today too.
I have been tracking my calories on myfitnesspal.com. My daily calorie intake goal is 1300 calories, which isn't hard to do when I add veggies and fruit into my meals. I notice that I tend to over-eat at the end of the day/night because I get home and just start snacking on stuff because I am impatient for dinner to be ready. So that is something I need to work on.
Tomorrow, Rojo is going to wake up at the same time as me and go to the gym early....let's see if he actually gets up and is ready by 6:30am. (I doubt it). But hey, maybe if I dump some cold water over him it will make him move faster in the morning. Ha. So tomorrow we will start with strength and then hopefully I can get a good cardio workout in and jog for 45 min or so. Night ya'll!

6 inches Lost
Day 34:
Well I am happy to say that I ran 4.11 miles today. I was on the treadmill for an hour, practically non-stop except for maybe .3 miles. I walked a little toward the end because I was cramping up. So, I am still slow, but that's okay. To get a workout in on a Sunday is good in itself. I am happy =) Oh, and Rojo took my measurements...and I lost a total of 6 inches adding up from different body parts. I first measured myself on 12/15/09 and today he measured me again to see how my body fat loss is going. The body parts that we measured are:
waist
hip
thigh
calf
shoulders
chest
arm
So, though I am only at 144 lbs, I am happy to lose some inches! ;o)

Day 32: Week of NO workouts! =(
So, I don't know, but this week sucked for getting workouts in. I have been exhausted and tired and just not feeling good. I was truthfully sore until Wednesday, but there is no excuse for not working out yesterday. Today, I almost didn't go into work because I almost passed out when taking a shower this morning. But luckily Rojo offered to drive me to work because I couldn't call in sick. I am feeling better now, but I just feel sick and crappy. I doubt I will make it to the gym tonight.
On a good note... I found a site called http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ that tracks calories for each meal and snack of the day. It is really easy to use and takes out the work of me looking up calorie counts for what I eat. It also lets you set a goal amount, and you can even put in your workouts and it estimates how many calories you burn (but since I have not worked out since I started using it, I am not sure how that works).

Tonight I will be doing strength training with Allison. I bought girlie lifting gloves so my hands don't get calloused. They are black and have the pink breast cancer awareness ribbon on the top. The gloves got good reviews on amazon.com so I will let you know what I think after tonight! =)
Allison's car broke down so we had to get her car to a safe place until she figured out who/what/when she will get it fixed. We surprisingly made it to the gym pretty late, and luckily we got some type of workout in. I was in the mood to be lazy by that time, but something is better than nothing when it comes to working out!
I feel like I have not lost any weight (though I haven't gotten on the scale in over a week), but I HAVE been really consistent with my workouts and nutrition for the past month. Rojo keeps telling me to keep it up and I will see results so I guess I'm not gonna get to worked up about it. Just keep on keeping on!
Back Extension: 2x15
Long lunges w/ 25 lb overhead: 2x12
T's: 2x10
Ball Throw w/ 12 lbs: 1x15
Bench Press w/ 20 lbs + bar: 1x10, 1x4, 1x5 (with bar +10 lbs)
Push-ups: 2x10
Side Lunges: 2x12 w 12 lb ball
V Ups: 2x12
PS. I wore the new gloves and I didn't feel any pinching or rubbing on my skin like I usually feel with the bar while doing the bench press. So, I am giving a thumbs up for my new gloves. I'll post a link tomorrow. Until then, sweet dreams sweeties! =)

I felt better today soreness wise...but my left shoulder is still hurting me. I ran 5 miles today! 65 minutes on the treadmill. It felt good and I haven't sweat this much at the gym in a LONG time! My tank top was soaked by the end of my run but I don't mind sweating, I just hope the people behind me weren't grossed out.
B: fiber one pancakes, blueberry and soymilk smoothie
L: soy boca burger, tomatoes, spinach, 2 pieces whole wheat bread

Friday, Day 25
So today I was in extreme pain from the exercises I added yesterday. My shoulder external rotators, deltoids, and IT bands were hurting alot today. I haven't been in this much pain since I started working out again, so I took today to rest.
Nutrition was not bad, but I forgot to write it down.

Day 24
Ugh, I am just crabby today! I stopped at DD to get coffee on my way to
x-sport hoping it would cure my mood. It kicked in after the workout so I'm okay now I guess. Allison and I did strength today. Added a few new exercises into our usual mix and I am hurting, but in a good way. I am not happy with my weight...I haven't lost anything more and am still at 145pounds. Day 23
This morning and I woke up feeling sore all over. But not TOO sore. I think yoga really works our parts of my body that I don't use on an everyday basis. Yesterday I was able to do the Crane Pose (picture below), with my feet up in the air. It was really hard! And its the first time that I have been able to get both feet up=) So I was proud of myself hehe. And I had an easier time balancing the Warrier 3 pose. Today, I plan on getting a workout in after work. Possibly run 4 miles and do strength today too. I hope there is time tonight...we are going to see Rojo's cousin's new baby boy! Boy #3 for the family...I was rooting for a little girl lol.

Yoga Tuesday
Day 22: Tuesday, January 12, 2009
Normally I have been doing strength in the morning on Tuesdays and then yoga at night. Today, however, I am going to run tonight before yoga because I did weights yesterday and I slept in this morning before work. 11 hours of sleep to be specific! I increased the resistance for a few of the major muscle group exercises and I am definetly feeling it today!
B:kashi cereal, soymilk, coffee
L:salmon, 1/2 pita, carrots, hummus, green tea
Snack: handful of kashi cereal
D: soy boca burger, whole wheat bun, tomatoes, onions, spinach, avacado
So, I bought new running shoes on Sunday that I forgot to tell you about. And I used them today for the first time on the treadmill and I felt AMAZING!! Let me tell you, that shoes DO make a difference. I bought a pair of Nike running shoes suggested to me by a women at the Run Chicago store in Oak Park. LOVE THEM! I was able to run 3 miles today no problem! I actually was able to run .5 miles, walk for ~30 sec and finish all 3 miles. I did 45 min of cardio today and would have done more but the yoga class was starting and I had to go grab my mat from the locker room. I sweat it out on the treadmill and worked on my strength, balance, and posture in yoga. I love tuesdays! =)
PS. tomorrow gonna get on the scale and see how things are going weight wise. I can see and feel my body getting stronger, and hopefully the pounds continue to drop so I can fit into my old jeans soon! Its been 3 weeks and 1 day since I started and its flying by!

Day 21: Monday, Janurary 11, 2010
I fasted for 12 hours before my test this morning at work. I went to the gym with an empty stomach so that kinda sucked.

So today I was still sore and tired so I took today off as well. I didn't really keep track of what I ate, but from what I can remember, it ended with sharing a pizza with Rojo, so I definetly overate. Tonight I am fasting for 12 hours because I am getting screened at work tomorrow for our Wellness Program.

WIPED OUT.
So, my body hates me and I feel really achy so I am taking today to rest. Went to a baby shower this afternoon and the meal probably contributed to alot of calories, but today will have to be be my cheat day I suppose.

TGIF
Day 18: Friday, January 8, 2010
Gosh, I'm SO tired today. Thank goodness for the weekend, but it looks like a busy one...hopefully there is some time to relax. Wine Bar with girls from work tonight, baby shower and out with Phi Sig's and Kim's birthday tomorrow night. Sunday will be relaxing day and Rojo day =) I've been so busy at the gym this week and our schedules have not matched up to spend enough time together besides sleeping! So, if I'm lucky we can have some quality time on Sunday and maybe he can give me a kick-butt workout at the gym like the excellent personal trainer and boyfriend he is!
Tonight before the wine bar I am going to do 60 min of cardio. Today I will try to run .5 mile intervals of running with .1 to recover with walking. I need to build up my endurance! I'll let you know how it goes...
B: fiber one cereal, soymilk, banana
L: 2 pieces whole wheat bread, 1/2 avacado
Snack: carrots
D: small roll w/ butter
green salad with apricots, lemon vinagrette dressing
chicken and tomato pasta
2 glasses red wine, yumm! =)
*went out for dinner w/ work girlfriends and i thought i ordered some chicken breast meal with lots of tomatos but it was PASTA with SOME chicken and tomatoes in it...and some buttery sauce. I'm not sure how many calories were in it. I didn't eat the WHOLE thing (which I normally tend to do if I go out to eat) so I was happy. I gave the rest to Rojo, who says he needs MORE calories so he wants to keep junk food in the house. But I told him to keep it in the CAR! lol
Oops I forgot to post my workout...
Treadmill 60 minutes, 3.8 miles
foam rolled my IT band
ball crunches

Sore!
Day 16: Wednesday, January 6, 2009
So I woke up this morning extremely sore again. Yoga last night and strength training yesterday morning was very intense. Tonight I will do cardio or a new class at the gym that I've been wanting to try.
B: oatmeal, lite soymilk, honey
L: 1/2 pita, lettuce, 1 tomato, and 3 slices of low sodium turkey breast
Snack: raw green beans, 1 apple
D: tilapia with ginger, yellow squash, sweet potato, carrots, spinach, and kale w/ lemon
Tonight, Allison and I were a minute too late on getting steppers for a new class at the gym so we just did the treadmill instead. Darned new-years-resolutioners!!! =)
P.M. workout: 60 minutes treadmill, 4.19 miles
Run/walk at 3.5, 4.8, and 6.0 mph intervals.
My goal is to start building up my endurance. I just get so bored looking around at people at the gym when I'm trying to jog. I need to put some good music on my ipod i think to get going on the endurance training. I'm really slacking in that department.

Getting Stronger! =)
Day 15: Tuesday, January 5, 2010
To my wonderful surprise today, I got on the scale (I refused to RIGHT after the New Year's Weekend so I finally got on it today...) anddd I weigh 145.6! At least the numbers are not going up. They are slowly going down! So that's almost a 6 pound loss from when I first started my change 15 days ago.
This morning is strengh. Allison and I did:
2x12 side lunges w/ 12lb medicine ball
2x12 front lunges w/ 15lb weights in each hand....(difficult!!!)
3x10 bench press w/ bar+10lbs (I got stronger and can lift 5 lbs more woo!)
2x10 bicep curls w/ 15lbs
2x12 tricep push back w/ 10lbs
*a bunch of sets of ab stuff
Tonight is yoga at 8pm. I am really loving the yoga class, the instructor teaches different from other yoga classes I've tried. But he really challenges me! Rojo even comes with and finds it hard too! See, even MEN can do yoga and get a good challenge out of it.
B: coffee, yogurt
L: can of tuna, 2 yogurts (noooo groceries so my lunch sucked)
Snacks: cup cereal, 1 yogurt, 1 cup beans w/ pepperjack cheese
D: boca burger, whole wheat bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard
green tea

Back on Track!
Day 14: Monday, January 4, 2009
Goodmorning and Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice holiday NYE weekend =) I had a nice long weekend full of friend and family gatherings. I did not keep track of my diet, or exercise. I didn't eat horribly, but I did not make it to the gym due to alot of family get-togethers!
However, I DID make it to the gym this morning! I figured that I start out the week with cardio and go from there. So, today I did 3.5 miles in the treadmill. I walked/ran as much as I could, but my knees were bothering me. So I foam-rolled after my workout and did some abs. I was really tired when I woke up, and I alllmost thought about not goin to the gym, but I made myself!
Workout: walk/run 3.5 miles, 50 minutes
Breakfast: coffee x2, egg white turkey sausage flatbread sandwich from DD
Lunch: 1 cup beans, 2 slices pepperjack cheese, 1 piece of cactus
Snack: 2 slices turkey breast ( I know I'm wierd, but I LOVE lunchmeat!!), 1 cup cereal w/ 1 yogurt
Dinner: 3 cheese quesadillas w corn tortillas and pepperjack cheese, hot chocolate (home-made w dark cocoa)

New Year Celebration= HUNGOVER
Hello all,
It is exactly 7:24pm on New Year's Day and I am officially free from my day-long hangover. I came home from work yesterday, cleaned, and napped. Unfortunately I did not make it to the gym due to time constraints. I was sore though, and drank a ton of water all day and I still felt thirsty and dehydrated. Rojo said that the dehydration is a sign that my body is building muscle, and it needs alot of water to do so. So that is good!
Anywho, after a long night of drinking and celebrating, I woke up this morning (Day 11) with a HUGE hangover. I was pretty much throwing up all day and unable to stand up without feeling sick. So, some of my friends and loved ones got to see a wonderful display of puking on the side of the road and outside of some restaurants in Greektown. I feel bad for the poor onlookers because it was a discusting sight I'm sure. So, needless to say, I was not in attendance at the gym today. So, my body had 2 days of full rest and play to recover for the workout in store tomorrow morning.
Oh, also, Chicago's annual Shamrock Shuffle 8K (5 mile run) is open for registration. I am registering for that tomorrow and you should all join me!
Happy New Year everyone!=)
